Men: Please Go To The Doctor!
Did you know that a health magazine and a cable news show did a survey and found that only 1/3 of men in American has not seen a doctor in over a year?
What’s even more astoundingly is that in the last 5 years, the number of men who have not been to the doctor reaches over 8 million. Surprisingly every year, males make over 100 million fewer trips to the doctor than women. This analyzing occurs in all age groups; not just those years where women have an appointment due to pregnancy.
A study that was done by the (AMA) American Medical Association in the early 1990′s showed that most men don’t go see a doctor for several reasons; denial, masculinity, and the dreaded FEAR word.
A leading heart doctor said that early in life males are taught to quote “shake it off” Having pain or other problems can be a sign of weakness and the stigma is that the male pride will be threatened. This is the brainwashing that has been taught to younger males and unfortunately, it has been carried on throughout life.
The denial of males not seeking medical attention is not related to forms of employment, economic status or race. What he has achieved in life, or how smart he is does not play a factor for not going to the doctor either.
We are starting to see the consequences of this serious problem sometimes can be fatal. Men before the their middle sixties suffer almost 3 times more heart problems than women. other studies show that 1 out of 3 men suffer with a high increase in blood pressure which is a high risk for heart attacks.
Want more facts? Almost 1 in every 9 men will have some form of cancer from the prostate. Only a few of these men will have a digital exam and the blood test to detect it from a doctor.
Men are even at a greater risk than women because of stress-related illnesses and yet fewer of them have stress related jobs. Because of not being checked regularly, men also have a much higher percent of having a stroke as well.
Men, let’s erasing the brainwashing that was taught when we played little league. Men must remember that going to the doctor is a very important step toward living a life that is free for diseases and other problems that if caught very early, most of the common sicknesses can be corrected and even provented.

I found your blog post while searching Google. Very informative, especially since this is not an issue a lot of people are familiar with…
Thanks. Yes this is an issue that is not talked about very much but is indeed a very serious problem that needs to be addressed. Men need to take better care of themselves to ensure a long life and good health.
